Achille Mbembe is a research professor in history and politics and a senior researcher at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER), University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. His latest book, on The Postcolony, is the winner of the 2006 bill Venter/Altron award.
