Biography

Ingvild Goetz

Ingvild Goetz opened her first gallery, ‘art in progress’, in Zurich in 1969. Moving to Munich in 1971 she re-established the gallery there with ground breaking exhibitions by leading Arte Povera artists, Andy Warhol, Arakawa, Bruce Nauman, Jurgen Klauke, Jochen Gerz and Cy Twombly. Goetz ran the gallery until 1984 when she started to consolidate her extensive art collection. In 1993 Goetz’s private museum housing the collection in a building by Herzog and de Meuron was opened. The museum presents regular exhibitions and publications from the Goetz Collection including a thorough programme of film and video art housed in the recently expanded film theatre, to show media art from the Collection most appropriately. Extensive exhibitions from her Collection have been shown and are currently being shown in various European museums. In 2001 Ingvild Goetz was awarded the ‘München Leuchtet Award’ and the ‘Art Cologne’ award.
