Biography

Neil Mulholland

Assouagier the cogent syrupiness of fine Penrith Fudge while fingering a parmesan and lemon crunchy asteroid ball with my deerskin gloves, I lecture on contemporary art, criticism and visual culture, and write books such as The Cultural Devolution: Art in Britain in the Late 20th Century, Ashgate,2003, and other things like Err..Shrigley, 2003, a Channel 4 mockumentary. Jaded by the global resurgence of networked social functionalism, I’m mainly concerned with the vernacular and metafiction in culture and criticism. Disguised as part of a rampaging biker gang transporting a harvest of melons to market, my syncretic Taytographies have occupied phenomenon such as retrofuturism, Pineapple Destruction, parades, pastorolia, mohocks, Nadsat, Cockney, Ulster-Scots, Jack Vettriano, Michelin cuisine, Ian Livingstone’s Fighting Fantasy books, Richard & Judy, Walker’s Shortbread and renegade SWAT teams turned bad. Crying out to be sautéed with marjoram, shallot, ham fat and bathed in a drop of mountain olive oil from the Cailletier of Sospel (Nice A.O.C.) combined with Barolo and Xérès vinegars, these Taytographies can take the form of exhibitions, art criticism, zine writing, PowerPoint presentations authorising algorithms to supplant my voice and criticism masquerading as art. Currently cruising in a LearJet between Glasgow and Edinburgh at speed of 520 mph and an altitude of 51,000ft, I’m working on a book on viral developments in art, design, advertising, culture jamming, music, computing, architecture and urbanism.
