Anthropologist
Roland Kapferer is a philosopher, film and television producer and musician based in London and Sydney. He has lectured in film and media at the University of New South Wales, Australia, and most recently published in two edited collections, Expert Knowledge: First World Peoples, Consultancy and Anthropology (Berghahn, 2003) and Oligarchs and Oligopolies: New Formations of Global Power (Berghahn, 2005). He is a regular contributor to frieze. He has published music in Australia since the mid nineties and had top ten singles in both Australia and Japan. He was associate producer and chief researcher for the Australian television series John Safran vs. God (SBS, 2004). He wrote and produced The Agatha Christie Code (ITV1, 2005). He is now developing a series for ITV1 on the nature of genius and co-writing and co-producing a new feature film for SBSi (Australia). He is currently doing a regular segment on political conflict for Sunday Night Safran (ABC, Australia, 2006) and part of a major HF Guggenheim project on the interconnections between global transformations in state structures and new formations of poverty. He is currently completing a book on cinema and philosophy.
