Los Super Elegantes & vivid astro focus

Los Super Elegantes & vivid astro focus

‘Make it With You: A Slow Dance Club’ was a mini club positioned in a central fair location offering alternative human interaction with dancing and performances by Los Super Elegantes. The set was designed by assume vivid astro focus and Los Super Elegantes. The ‘Slow Dance Club’ provided an environment distinctive from the typical competitive and commercial pace of traditional art fairs. The audience were invited to immerse themselves in a total artwork—to converse, watch and slow dance to a different rhythm.

The music they compose integrates different genres and fetishized pop sounds. Taking singing harmonies of the beach boys, metal guitar solos, and mixing this with a dirty house beats, or other combinations depending on the theme of a certain song.  Working in a way that is similar to collage. The lyrical writing is spontaneous, improvised and minimally edited, relying on the actual song to inspire the words that will pertain to it. Their performances are either with a full band or by themselves lipsynching to pre-recorded tracks. Their musical plays sample text from different movies and other sources, creating a new narrative for the performance, dealing with language similar to the writing of a song.

Born in Mexico and Argentina respectively, Los Super Elegantes both now live and work in Los Angeles. Working as musicians, playwrights and visual artists they exhibited at the Whitney Biennial 2004, New York, Peres Projects, Los Angeles, 2003, and Deitch Projects, New York, 2003.
